restaurant el kiosco

A good tip is to use the restroom at this restaurant and possibly buy something to drink or eat because from this location there are no restrooms and or restaurants until after the hike. and that’s only about 3 hours later.

1st access to entrance caminito del rey, king’s path

el-caminito-beginning-hike

You then follow the bordes Caminito del rey. This takes you along a trail through a pine forest of about half an hour walk (2.7 km) to also the entrance to the King’s Path where ticket control takes place.

2nd access to entrance caminito del rey, king’s path:

The second option is a slightly faster route, shorter of about only 20 minutes to the entrance of the King’s Path.  however, this time you must then pass through a dark tunnel 300 meters long.

For this second option, do not take the exit immediately after the restaurant but keep walking on the main street. after about 3 minutes walk you will see on the left side of the road a sign pointing 1.5 km to Caminito del rey. you can see that a tunnel has been built through the mountain there. this tunnel is 300 meters long.

caminito del rey
on the left on hooftstraat a few minutes after restaurant EL KIOSKO

300-meter-long dark tunnel right through the mountain. is shorter.
So either you take option 1 through the forest , or you take option 2, faster and through this tunnel.

Eventually you will arrive at the entrance. see photo below.

After 30 minutes of walking we arrive at the entrance, ticket control
After 30 minutes of walking we arrive at the entrance, ticket control

how does the walk go ?

The hike runs from the north down through the gorge, 2.9 km long. you cannot walk back !!! once you arrive at the end of the hike you will reach the reservoir and train station EL CHORRO.

Atalaya Golf Estepona

Atalaya Golf Coountry Club

Opened in 1968, the Bernard von Limburger-designed Old Course makes Atalaya one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs on the coast. Von Limburger was responsible for 74 courses throughout Europe, although Atalaya is his only Spanish course. The New Course was added in 1990 to a design by Paul Krings.

Unlike so many golf clubs in the Estepona area, Atalaya was founded primarily as a golf club, as opposed to a real estate development. This heritage allows both members and visitors to enjoy golf in a natural setting, largely unhindered by residential development.

From the beginning, Atalaya was conceived as an open golf destination, where both members and visitors would find a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Unique to the club is the diversity of its members, where no fewer than 36 nationalities can enjoy their golf in the Spanish sunshine. This diversity naturally attracts visitors from all over Europe and beyond.

Throughout its history, the club has made significant investments in its two courses and in the club’s facilities. The club has an ongoing five-year strategic plan with goals for golf course maintenance and improvement, including a comprehensive tree plan. Over the years, subtle improvements have been made to the original design of von Limburger to offer players a fair but interesting challenge. In 2017, the club made a major investment in the first hole on the Old Course, making it a very attractive opening to any round of golf. At the same time, a new café and terrace was built to provide a convenient and attractive place for refreshment prior to the round while also serving as a “halfway point.” Uniquely, the first tee actually forms the roof of the café!

In 1998, the club built a substantial golf academy and full length practice hole, including all the necessary surfaces and conditions to practice and learn every aspect of the game. Visit our Golf Academy. A fully equipped gymnasium was added to the clubhouse in 2013 and a new outdoor terrace was also constructed in 2001, offering attractive views of the Old Course. More recently, in 2018, a parking garage next to the clubhouse was completed that can accommodate more than 150 cars and, looking to the future, includes a number of electric car charging stations. A complete renovation of the clubhouse and restaurant was completed in 2019, providing an attractive airy space for a drink at the bar or a meal in the restaurant.

The club understands that it wants to maintain its position as one of the premier golf destinations on the coast and that we will continue to invest to ensure the best golfing experience for our members and visitors.

Buying in Estepona? Guest blog Mr. Tom van Wees

Most of the questions I’ve been getting lately are about inheritance and inheritance tax and property values here on the coast.

To begin with inheritance law and inheritance tax, the simplest and most sensible thing that can be said about it is that it is quite complicated. It is eminently material to look up a specialist for. As is so often the case when engaging a specialist, it costs money at first, which only pays off much later, usually in the form of (tax/succession tax) savings. But if the advice is (or was) good, it can also produce substantial savings, preserve wealth, avoid having to necessarily sell something to pay inheritance tax, or other woes you don’t want.

For this matter, nowadays often captured under the term (International) Estate Planning, you can contact your notary, financial advisor or sometimes your own bank. For the slightly more fortunate, there are also very good opportunities here on the coast with the (Dutch) banks, which profile themselves with their “Private Banking” department. Some freely disposable pecunia are a prerequisite, but then you also get access to an amount of information, advice and possibly even strategies, which are unparalleled.

During my studies, I met a very special fellow student. His name is Godfrey, and for good reason. He resembles his famous namesake Godfried Bomans in everything. I have never asked him, but am convinced, that he wears the clothes and shoes, which his father and grandfather also wore. At his home, people talked about everything (in different languages) except money. He did tell me once, that money was not an item in his family; money was made -because of high positions- but spent as little as possible. From what remained, quality stocks and real estate were bought and nothing was ever sold. The adage was, “Quality lasts…”. He did three studies at once, not that he ever wanted anything to do with them, but solely because he found them interesting. When his father died and he was more or less called to manage the family capital, he did a study of economics in a minimum time, which he completed cum laude. Then, helped by a real estate and stock boom, he multiplied that family capital. He never gave me the impression of having worked even one day in his life, but that increase in the family capital was still quite impressive.

To my great pleasure, he has visited us several times in the past year. He not only has a great liking for fine wines, but is also a very good and extremely enthusiastic cook, who enjoys cooking for us. But his visits have a more important reason. Based on a large amount of data, he is firmly convinced, that here in the South of Spain are currently the best real estate investment opportunities. And so he buys -selectively- but steadily. And you understand, we are happy to help him with that!

So when I am asked how I see the development of property values here in the South of Spain, I think of Don Antonio and Godfrey for a moment and invariably reply, “…in the short term I have no idea, but on a ten-year basis I am rationally convinced, that prices will at least double; emotionally I can’t believe it, but rationally I am completely convinced!”.
And then I try to look as serious about that as possible.
